Velvet cut pile - Velvets are the densest, most luxurious cut pile carpets. Each yarn in a velvet has very little twist to it to create the appearance of an uninterrupted sweep of color. Because of that, they feel very soft and elegant and are perfect for the more formal and low traffic areas of your home. Like fine velvet fabric, light plays on different areas to form shading of colors. To many people, shading lends character and richness to the carpet. It also means velvets will tend to show vacuum cleaner marks and footprints. Saxony cut pile - *Saxonies are a little more durable than velvets. The tufts of saxonies are made of slightly bulkier yarn and are twisted a bit more than velvet, making them more resistant to crushing and matting but still very soft and pleasing to the touch. Because of its nice feel and durability, saxony is very popular and can be used in many different areas of your home.The strands of saxony carpet stand up straight with more resilience and more tip definition. Colors look rich, even pastels. And deeper pile heights can be luxurious and practical at the same time. Saxonies are created by shearing the carpet fibers to one even pile height which gives the carpet a smooth appearance. The perfect smooth surface has the tendency to show footprints and vacuum cleaner marks which many consider to be the true mark of a luxury carpet.

Textured Saxony Carpets - Textured saxony carpets are created by using a somewhat curly yarn that will twist and bend over just slightly. When the ends are sheared, the additional twist in the fiber causes the tufts to reflect light differently than a smooth cut pile carpet, creating a textured appearance. This special twist makes the carpet more resilient so some call it "trackless" because footprints and vacuum marks are less obvious.

Tonal Saxony Carpets - A tonal saxony carpet is created by applying a random dye pattern to a solid colored textured Saxony carpet. This multi-colored dying process makes the texture more apparent, making tonal saxony carpets a practical choice.

Casual Carpets

Berber cut-pile - newer Berber look with color and interest of traditional loop Berbers but the great plush feel of thick, cut-pile carpet. Very versatile, ideal for casual rooms, etc. Subtle color flecks help hide soils. Berber Loop Carpets

Berber loop carpets have a tailored look that can create a casual environment in any room of the home. Berbers are a level loop carpet, usually constructed of large, fat loops. Berber generally is made of a thicker yarn than other level loop pile carpets. Berber comes in a variety of styles from simple level loop surfaces to geometric patterns. Berber styles are typically produced using light, natural colors such as cream colored loops with flecks of tan and brown.

This is practical carpet. Many Berbers are made of olefin fiber which is impervious to water-based stains, even bleach! Others are made with classic wool or durable nylon. The more texture the carpet has, the less wear it will show. Berber styles with their large, thick loops will maintain an even appearance under heavy foot traffic. Children at play by day or a parents party at night - no need to worry about the carpet.

Causal or Frieze Carpets - The individual yarns in a causal carpet are twisted even more tightly than those in saxonies. These carpets have tufts which are so tightly twisted they curl back on themselves in random directions. Instead of standing close to form a smooth surface, each tuft becomes an individual. This creates a nubby or "pebbled" look. Rich colors look especially great in the highlights and shadows of this carpet's surface. Highly resilient, it's truly trackless, easy to clean, and crush resistant which is ideal if you're looking to minimize the appearance of footprints and vacuum cleaner marks. They are also the most rugged of the cut piles which make them perfect for high traffic areas.

Pattern Cut and Loop Pile - Combined cut and looped fibers provide a variety of surface textures or carved/sculptured effects for medium durability. Multiple colors and levels hide dirt and footprints in formal or informal areas. Also available in solid colors. As its name suggests, a cut and loop pile carpet is made up of a combination of looped yarn and cut yarn. Cut and loop pile carpet is created by tufting some loops higher than others. When the carpet is sheared, the higher loop tufts are cut but the lower ones are not. The resulting cut pile tufts look darker than the loops, creating a pattern which forms interesting designs that play with the light of the room to offer a rich visual experience.

The pattern created by this process can vary from carpet to carpet. But no matter how it's done, a cut and loop pile carpeting always delivers a distinctive, sculptured effect. Which makes it ideal for the more distinctive areas of your home.
